Bon Voyage Dinner

We had an opportunity to experience some of the foods we may see on our trip at our traditional Bon Voyage party.  I host this event every travel year so our students can bond before we leave over a good meal. I plan a breakfast, lunch and dinner for them to sample small portions. Students tell me that it makes it easier to adapt to the foods they see on tour because they already have an idea of what to expect.

For breakfast we had an assortment of French pastries, cheese and fruit.  Lunch was Croque Monsieur (a typical sandwich of ham and cheese with a béchamel sauce), Quiche Lorraine (egg pie with cheese and bacon), and a green salad. For dinner we sample Boeuf Bourguignon (Beet Stew) and Purée (mashed potatoes) as well as a traditional cheese fondue. For dessert we had macrons (little merengue cookies with flavored fillings), mini éclairs, chocolate mousse, and of course crêpes with jam, Nutella or sugar.

This year was the first year I had to do all the cooking myself - though I did have an expert helper in my father. He came equipped with a crepe pan I had bought for him on on my trips to France and make crepes for hours before the dinner!

Here are a few of my favorite photos from the event!
