Welcome Home

Well, it is time to bring our trip to a close. We have landed in Charlotte and are ready to return students to their parents.

Thank you for following along on our journey through this blog and for trusting me with your children. These trips bring me such a sense of joy, seeing the world literally open up for our students. I hope many of them will return to Europe in the future, or wherever their hearts lead them in their journeys to learn about the world outside of Mooresville. I have loved getting to know them, share meals with them, and learn what great kids they are.

This is a bittersweet sign-off for me, as this will be my last student trip, but I'm glad to have had the chance to create memories with this special group of travelers. The students are the reason I have done this for so many years and what makes all the work worth it.

"Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.”

Boarded

We are on the plane for the short hop to CLT. See you soon!

Back in the land of Chick-fil-A

We have 15 minutes to spare and are in the same terminal as CFA - so of course our students had some waffle fries and sweet tea!!

On the ground in ATL

We have landed and are getting ready to deplane and head through customs. It should take us most of our layover to get through customs and security and transferred to our next flight. I will update again when we are ready to board for CLT.

At the Airport and Gate

We are through security in Paris and waiting at he gate to board our flight to Atlanta. I will post another update once we land in US and clear customs.

We are in the hotel

I know some of you may be concerned with a news story on CNN and Fox. It appears there was some sort of issue on the Champs Elysées. I want to let you know we are in our hotel, everyone accounted for, and we are not anywhere near the police presence or problematic area.

Last Dinner in Paris

Our last meal was delicious!  Roast pork in a cream gravy with si gratin potatoes and chocolate mousse. After dinner we have a card and some macarons to Chiara to thank her for being our tour guide. I think everyone enjoyed the food and the last chance to eat some authentic French food.

From here we stopped for some tasty macarons as a special treat and had some fun blocking traffic in he Latin Quarter for a photo!

We are in safe and sound at the hotel now gettinfoacjed for our early flight tomorrow! Thankful for an early evening after such a jam-packed trip!

Adult Cafe Time

We had some free time so of course, it was back to the Latin Quarter for everyone to spend the last of their Euros. The adults, being all shopped out, decided to partake of the traditional French custom of having an afternoon refreshment at the café while the kids scoured for souvenirs. We enjoyed some Orangina (kind of like an orange juice Sprite), some crême brulée, some cream puffs, and even some escargot. A very French snack break!

Musée d'Orsay

After our ride back into town we stopped at the museum that houses many Impressionist
Paintings and sculptures. It is housed in an old train station and is just beautiful and a little
More manageable size-wise than the Louvre.

We saw a special exhibition on the Starry Night, including some Van Gogh and Monet and sat outside in the beautiful weather outside while waiting. Wonderful afternoon!
