Coullioure

It seems every time we hit a new place the kids say "This is where we want to live!" But this really was a beautiful spot! We had been driving along through small hills (seeing vineyards built into the hills along tiered terraces was very cool) when out of nowhere the bay appeared with all of these red roofs and colored homes and the bright blue sea. It is just like a postcard! Lotte wisely gave us almost 2 hours to explore.

We all headed down to beachy area which has a small bay and rocky beach. It is surrounded by an old bell tower shops and cages and the remains of a fortress. Children were playing in the sand and it was actually warm here! We took a LOT of pictures and then the kids broke off to shop and eat lunch. This city is known for seafood and anchovies. A few kids tried the churros which are log sticks of fried dough dusted in sugar. The Catalan influence of Spain was obvious in the menus and the culture.

As we were waiting at our rendez-vous point we happened upon a group of local men playing pétanque in town. This is a very traditional French game similar to Bocce Ball but almost exclusively played by men. We watched for quite some time before boarding our bus.

We are on the road to Barcelona now which should take us another 2.5 hours and then we will be having tapas for dinner!

Until the next post! ~Mme
