So it's not really a recap because I blogged throughout the day but here is the last post for the night with the rest of the afternoon :)
So after our trek up the mountainous Alpilles to Baux de Provence, we headed back through the rain into Avignon city center. They spent a good hour talking to Lotte on the bus on the way back and have decided she would be an excellent addition to our school and should replace me as the French teacher :)
The kids opted not to return to the hotel and went straight back into town, to the same boulevard we'd walked several times yesterday, to do more shopping now that more stores were open. Several ended up at H&M, and several ended up at McDonalds for a snack. Even though it was dreary and rainy they didn't seem to care.
We met back for dinner at 6:30 at the same restaurant as last night, but with a different menu. We had roast pork in mustard sauce with roasted potato slices and chocolate mousse cake for dessert. As soon as dinner was done the kids were off again to explore on their own. They certainly got their exercise today! The adults stayed and chatted with Lotte, who has had quite an amazing travel adventure in her life. She has biked from Belgium to Turkey, been to 31 countries, been parasailing in Peru, and done all kinds of amazing things. We are trying to convince her to come to the US and hike the Appalachian trail next.
As an April Fool's joke we made Lotte wear the fluorescent vest of shame back to the kids, who thought it was hysterical. We shared our bus ride back to the hotel with another Explorica group whose bus had broken down, and the kids decided they definitely like this private tour thing better :) Lots more laughter in the hotel, retelling of stories then off to their rooms for the night.
Tomorrow we have a long bus ride day as we head into Spain. We'll stop for lunch in the border town of Coullière, which is supposed to be a pretty seaport in France. Then into Barcelona!
