Azay le Rideau

We had a relaxed breakfast in the morning at the hotel and headed off to Azay le Rideau. This area is where a lot of battles took place in the Middle Ages and the 100 Years war (which actually lasted 117 years).

Joan of Arc is part of this area's history, as she rode to this area to see soon to be King Charles VII to convince him to give her an army to fight the British. She had visions and even though Charles had tried to trick her by dressing as a commoner, she knew to come to him and it convinced him to grant her request. Against all odds, she wins the battle though later she was captured and burned at the stake in Rouen in Normandy.

The chateaux is under renovation. While we waited for it to open we had about 15 minutes to explore he little streets, grab a coffee and check out the church's where there is a fantastic sculpture of Jeanne d'arc.
