Traveling through the Loire

The Loire is a river that winds through the region, which is called the garden of France. We have seen lots of farms and fruit and vegetable orchards. It is very green even for early spring. The Loire River is an important element of trade.

The kings decided to settle here and built vacation homes (ha!) at the end of the Middle Ages and a Renaissance era from the Middle Ages 1400s until the mid 1500s because of the temperate climate and to be safe from the potential plots in Paris. Because the nobles wanted to be near the king they followed and built their own castles. There are almost 700 castles in the region.
