Bus Tour Part 2

The Exhibition of 1851 (the first of the World’s Fairs) was held in Hyde Park and celebrated successes in the humanities and science. The exhibition was such a success they raised enough money to buy up all the land around the area and build museums, including the Victoria and Albert, science, and natural history museums. There is a large memorial in Hyde Park to Prince Albert representing his contributions and this Park is now an icon of the London cultural scene. Queen Victoria has a nervous breakdown after he died unexpectedly and became known as the Widow of Windsor.

We are now moving into Knightsbridge, one of the luxury shopping corners. Harvey Nichols is the favorite department store of posh Londers including Princess Diana. We also saw a Maclarrn flagship store, Bulgari, and posh hotels.

At the end of Hyde Park is the memorial to the Duke of Wellington, the head of command against Napolean and the greatest British military hero. Just outside the roundabout is the home of the Duke of Wellington. His descendants still live here in a flat on the top floor with a museum on the bottom floors.
The memorial depicts the angel of peace descending on the chariot of war.
