Notre Dame: the history (and photos)

Construction dates from 1163 and took 200 years to build between the rear and the facade (which was finished last). It has been through the 100 Years War, the revolutions, the world wars and still it survives. https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1VH-dDP6-BunHIjWM8Y9lRT1rneRLH6wHhttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1wCNfc6jUY0LjPMhfAWRkw1oZSct3pQtw

After the revolution the people confused the statues of the kings of the Bible on the front facade with kJ da of France and took them down and beheaded them, and they are now replicas. We can’t get close enough to see them now. https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1GnsFR_84izW1JizUnU2cLUP1wQpS1XOdhttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1F_-GqJP8JHvza2yb4MXdwcXqyjzw1DKQhttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1IyfZxjq0wvy5yOAK4WyVGpTkxuU6qPsI

Victor Hugo really saved the cathedral because it had fallen to disrepair. After his novel, people started to look at the building to recognize its state of decay and massive renovations began in the 19th century. https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1k4A5gZ1A5eMCuEc0_-ULQFVJaVbVl5qRhttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1rSh6enVpwEb75_W2TpSPM9wBasHPgWiEhttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1jKbNhvu772ufQAcW_HlzpEBDcBNVa4q-

The Notre Dame building is owned by the national historic monument organization but the church itself is owned by the Parrish. Private donations are paying for the renovations.

A church is like a book because it tells the story of the Bible for people who could not read and explains why the decorations are so important to the preservation. The sculptures statues and the stories in the stained glass windows were used to teach the people the religious stories.  Its’s like saying, “Come inside and find shelter from the scary animals outside and find your refuge in God.”  Having seen the restoration after the fire at Windsor I am hopeful Notre Dame will return to its glory soon.
