Cathedral. It was truly emotional seeing this majestic cathedral that has survived so many wars still standing but badly scarred.
No restoration has begun; the focus is still trying to save the building structurally. It was under renovation at the time of the fire and the construction scaffolding melted to the structure. It has to be replaced individual piece by piece as right now it is what is holding up the cathedral. The unique architecture of the flying buttresses only works with the roof; it has caved in so it is still very much a race to save the building.
There have put in scaffolding and wooden framing as they begin to try and preserve the structure.
The cathedral houses amazing religious and historical artifacts. Fortunately, 98% of the relics were saved and are currently stored at the Louvre. Shortly they will begin to display again the crown of thorns at the Louvre.
They took out the rose windows to protect them as they were not destroyed but it makes it easier to restore. These holes show where the other smaller windows would have been. The large scaffolding covers where the rose windows were.
