Free time in Lucerne

It’s back to a bigger city! Lucerne is one of the most picturesque cities in Switzerland, known for its lake views and charming, historic architecture. As soon as you walk through the city, it feels like you’re stepping into a storybook. The city is famous for its well-preserved medieval buildings, like the Chapel Bridge, which dates back to the 14th century and is decorated with beautiful paintings that show Lucerne’s past. This is one of the images in our travel shirt, along with the lion monument. The city’s history stretches back to Roman times, but it really came into its own in the Middle Ages.

We walked along the river to our meeting point where our guides gave us the lay of the land. Kids had 2 and a half hours to grab some lunch, shop and explore. Since it’s Sunday a lot of the shops were closed but it’s a great city to walk around and see the architecture.

Fun shopping for Swiss Army knives, Swiss chocolate, and anything with cows!

Some of our chaperones indulged in sausage and pretzels and then finished off with gelato.

Many of the buildings in Lucerne feature beautiful murals in them. It was a sign of wealth to display your family business in the art in your building. Walking around this town is like visiting an outdoor art museum!

It was a successful afternoon and we had one more stop for a photo before we head off on our walking tour.
