The streets of Bologna

Not sure if it was market day or if this is just normal, but the tiny streets were full of shops with fresh food out. Cheese shops, fresh fruit and veggies, of course stores selling deli meat like the famous mortadella, and bakeries interspersed with cute cafes, gelaterias, and trattorias. Here’s some of the street life spotted during free time:

Fresh and dried meats

Fresh made pastas for sale

Cheese and meats

More seafood

And of course the infamous McDonald’s

Shops were a mix of high end boutiques, souvenir stands, bookshops, and clothing stores.

An AED (diffribulator) was spotted - in 2021 Italy passed a law requiring AEDs in public areas for bystanders to use in case of emergency.

Bologna’s other nickname is the “Fat City” and it could be because they are known for outstanding food. Many students reported they had an excellent lunch. Some tried the local specialty of tortellini in broth, others had the famous Lasagna Bolognese.

All in all a successful stop for the day!
